what will the neigbors think?...

  ? (2002, Malaysia)

1.hi,how are you!!, can you tell us a little bit about the band and any great history about this band ?
- Tep/bass : Hi Khairil! Sorry for the delay I took, and I thank you very much for this itw! Well, I just join the band for 5 or 6 months only, so I'm not the best placed to tell something about the history of the band. I just can say that it changed my life!, and I can see life much clearer right now ;-) "tekken for life"!
- Dav/guit. : Hi Khairil, I'm fine thanks ! In the beginning we were a group of friends and we were just doing some noise. Then we have recorded a demo tape in january 1999 with real but not very serious songs. Later some friends wanted to see us on stage and they found us a show. So it is for our first show in april 2000 that we were obliged to do real songs. Now we are 6 in the band : David & Jim on mic., Jo (drums), Tep (bass) and Antho & me (guitars).Jim and Antho are less and less involved in the band.
Any great history ? One of our shows that I enjoyed was when only the one who organised the show and a band were aware that we'd played. We weren't planned, so we made a sort of " terrorist action " with tight on our heads. We had jumped on stage and played when the band has just finished…
- Dav/mic : Hi man, you're ok ? First of all, sorry for my really bad english… I was supposed to study it in school, but it's hard for me to write in english… I was in scientist section (now it's not the case !) perhaps it is the reason!
Any great history ? I can't remember…but I think the best thing is that we met so many cool people through this band… It's the most important for me !

2.who write the lyrics and what behind the lyrics?
- Dav./mic : Yeah ! I " write " the lyrics ? Is there a problem with it ? At the beginning, we we're just singing something like " bouboubou "… and I wrote lyrics on the insert of the tapes after the recordings sessions… That was just something for fun… And now, I can't say that I really write lyrics… It came like that… Sometimes when we practice, and sometime when I'm in my house… I don't know…
For me, there's nothing behind the lyrics… It's just stupid things for the first we wrote, and now… I think it's clear when you read it… It's just something to say : don't take you too seriously… (I don't know if it's in english… do you understand what I mean ?) There's too many " wannabes " in the scene… Too many people have just that in their empty life… I'm not saying that it's not important for me, it helps me to live, but I don't do things to be a " star " of the scene… It's so easy to be a little " star " in punk hardcore scene, don't you think so ? Even if this scene don't want it…
- Tep/bass : For the lyrics, David mic write all. It is his shit, with his own feelings behind. But I think that we try to "give" what we feel about life in general, about the scene, all that by the way of kidding and laughing...understand the "message" behind the jokes who wants, we just think that humour is a good way to communicate.

3.why do tekken choose grindcore?
- Tep/bass : In fact we don't choose grindcore cuzz' first we all wanted to be in Gangsta'Rap, but it didn't work for us. So we play fast to forget ...
- Dav/guit. : First of all we listen to grindcore… I love energy and speed in music… On other side you don't need to have made studies in music to play grindcore… It is a very accessible style…
- Dav/mic : I can't really remember why we " chose " grindcore… I supposed that we were just listening tons of bands that play fast and we wanted to play fast too ! We were into hardcore scene since quite a long time and it was our first band for the most of us… So it wasn't directly linked to anything… we just liked to play fast…

4.any new releases from tekken?
- Tep/bass : SO MANY! for september...
- Dav/mic : Yeah ! So many… So I don't know which ones will really be release… First, we have 3 songs on 2 different compilations (on Meat 5000 and Cirkus records, here in France)… we have one song on the " World Wide Compilation " on Zas ! (and many more labels, diy rules !) from Italy… It's a 7''… On this label there's a tape that must be out now… That's for the old stuff we send…
Now we have recorded for 2 split 7''… One with PEKATRALATAK one great anarchopunk band from here… And one is supposed to be with SECOND RATE a cool emopop band from France too… So we're waiting for the recordings of the other bands now…
And we've got some projects too… A 4 way split cd on Meat 5000 with SUPPOSITORY and… I can't remember… One split 7'' with PARKINSON !!! Yes ! It's cool, isn't it ? I'm sure you all know this band… ha ! ha ! ha !… It supposed to be pressing on tape by Broken Noise too… with more songs on the tape than on the 7'' !!! After another 4 way split 7'' with GEORGE BITCH JR, MUSTANG PROJECT and FRANKIE HILL !!! So now we have to recorded so many stuff… But I just hope we will be able to do that !

5.what do you guys like to achieve in ya'll live?
- Tep/bass : I don't know ?!...nothing but fun with the band, it means meeting people, exchange, confront...live!
- Dav/guit. : Personally I'd like that everybody become vegetarian. But I'm realistic so I will answer : just to see the number of vegetarian increase, to see that more people spread the information that we don't need to kill animals to live.
- Dav/mic : Humans have something to achieve ? Personally, I don't think I have something to achieve… I just want to live and be the most happy that I could (and it's not so easy…) All that in the respect of the others… Trying to live without hurting the others… It's beautiful… no ? Live my own life in fact, but it's hard… I don't want to waste my time in a bad job (bad doesn't mean for me that you don't win a lot of money… you can win all the money you want, and it could be a " bad " job for me, ok ?)

6.your view about war between Israel zionist and Palestinian people?
- Dav/mic : It's such a difficult question, I'm sure you know it… I'm born in Tunisia… So my heart goes with the Palestinian people… But in wars there's two belligerents (or most…), and it isn't the good one versus the bad one… It's never the good versus the evil… It's more complicate. I have discovered that to be jew is more than just a religious thing… and I can't understand why this people are hated so much (I only speak about jews in general, it's not the same problem with zionism) For me Palestinians and Israelis are the same people ! I mean they're just humans ! So why can't they live together ?
Israel is more powerful, have a bigger army, have the biggest friend of the earth and seams to oppressed Palestinians… So I'm not into the Palestinian's camp, but I'm against the Israeli's one and against Israeli's politic.
They are fighting for territories, for more power… and they hide themselves behind their religions… What can we say ? Every country where there's a strong religion does the worst things that we could imagine… So religions stink, suck, is shit… what you want !
- Dav/guit. : I don't know the real stakes of this war, all I know is that the base is very complicated and that some people of the 2 parts are insane enough to make atrocities and to continue those atrocities. I think that we can put the blame on the USA.
- Tep/bass : Oh, it's difficult to tell my point of view about a so complex subject, I think that the actual situation resume well the imbalance between occident and orient, traduced more by the millenaries wars of religions shit who still operate today. Domination and oppression lead to nothing expects death around.

7.if you guys had a chance to kill george w bush, what will you do?
- Tep/bass : I don't think so, even with this asshole, I could not do what he does everyday...
- Dav/mic : I couldn't kill anyone. Even this bastard… Why Americans have always chosen the stupidest man of their country to be their president ? Perhaps the stupidest isn't the worst ! And that must be a real problem… But don't think it's different or better here in France… At the last elections it was even worst ! People had choice between a racist/ nationalist and a gangster… cool, isn't it ? The gangster won.
- Dav/guit. : Are you talking about George Bitch Jr ? (We have friends whose band is called like that !) I certainly won't because I think that nobody can take the liberty of killing someone. But if I could I would make it sit down on his electric chair and I would make him believe that his last day has come…

8.what about scene in french now?
- Tep/bass : we have a pretty cool scene, who needs to develop by itself, we still have problems for example to book tours, numerous foreign bands still prefer playing in Spain or Germany, but not between!... We should have to be more numerous, to organise shows, and we very need places to... I don't know how it is in Malaysia, I just imagine another kind of difficulties...
- Dav/guit. : It's hard to sum up the scene of a country in few lines. I think that in general, the french scene is correct. There aren't bands that are very famous out of France but we have a lot of bands that make noise. Obviously I can't list them all but among those I like there is : GEORGE BITCH JR, VÖMIT FOR BREAKFAST, DISBEER, SICKNESS, HYPOPTALASIAS, TETSUO, ANAL RIP, SOAR, SUBLIME CADAVERIC DECOMPOSITION, BLOCKHEADS, ROMEO IS BLEEDING, COCHE BOMBA, URBAN STRUGGLE, TWIST, PULMONARY FIBROSIS… It's a little sample.
We have a lot of fanzines that speak about fast music : Tranzophobia, New Wind, In Dust We Trust, Scream (rip), Fight For Your Mind, Apatride, Tu Honoreras Ton Père Et Ta Mère… only the 2 first have english version.
Among the labels we have Panx, Murder, Maloka, Bones Brigade, Sanjam, Revolution… It is hard to make a sorting… There is a lot of distro list or newsletters too. What is cool is that the entire scene stays diy…
Generally speaking it is in big town like Bordeaux, Toulouse, Lyon, Marseille, Paris that there are big scene with shows.

9.when the last time ya'll crying?
- Dav/guit. : I never cry because I am rock heart man !
- Tep/bass : You mean last time I cry? It was when Italy lost versus South Corea at the world cup soccer, dude!...
- Dav/mic : I can't really remember… But I suppose that I cry for my little own problems...

10.i think that's all for today and any last words that you wanna share with us here in Malaysia?
- Tep/bass : Thank you for the itw, and hope to hear from you soon. Sorry for my bad english, too. Don't forget the struggle, don't forget the rules, and hit da road punk!!! Peace.
- Dav/ guit : Thank you very much, it's a great pleasure to see that you interest into us. Malaysia's scene fucking rules ! Say hello to PARKINSON and Johor Crew, RECONSTRUCT, ARGON, SHORTSITED, TUSSOK, SEMEREPANG, DAMOKIS, they all play fucking fast ! Say hello to Jimbo !
- Dav/mic : Thanks to you for this interview. Thanks to Jimbo of Broken Noise for the tape he putted out, it's really cool. And listen to bands from your country, I'm sure they're better than we are.
